This movie is based on the true story of boxer named Micky Ward. Christian Bale made a physical change to be very thin for the sake of playing the former boxer Dickie Eklund, the drug addict.

Synopsis:

This movie is all about a boxer named Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) who fought in order to become a great boxer, but had a conflict with his family as his brother Dickie Eklund (Christian Bale), a former boxer and a drug addict and his mother (Melissa Leo) as manager. Micky’s girlfriend, Charlene Fleming (Amy Adams) suggested that Micky have to search for a new manager and a coach and did not listen to his family. Micky's career started getting better but his conflicts with family is getting worse.

Christian Bale won an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor nomination for his acting as a drug addict. He looks very thin and very different than when he played as Batman. Melissa Leo also won the Best Supporting Actress on her role as unstable emotional mother.

Like other biopic, the film is focused with conflict and drama that happened in the family. The positive thing about this movie is intense storyline so the audience will not feel bored. This movie also supported by a very good acting by actors and actresses. Cinematography of the film is very good. We can feel the intense atmosphere in this film

Boxing scene that performed are very exciting. Mark Wahlberg really worked hard for this film. He was practicing boxing nonstop and accompanied by the by Manny Pacquiao. To be honest, Mark Wahlberg is good enough to at least get nominated for an Academy Award for best actor.

This time I will discuss about English Oscar-winning movie. Like another Oscar winner, the film is the adaptation of the true story

Synopsis:

After the death of his father, King George V, and the controversy of the leadership by his brother, Edward VIII (Guy Pierce), Prince Albert Frederick Arthur George (Colin Firth), must take over the leadership of the United Kingdom. He changed his name to George VI. However, he has lack in public speaking, which is stuttering. He can’t speech properly in public. Assisted by his wife Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) and her therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), George VI trying to recover from stuttering

This film really deserved to win an Oscar. Usually, the Oscar-winning movie is biography or event based on true story. We will be captivated by the story of this film. We can feel the struggle of George VI in training his speaking ability and conflict that happened in the kingdom. The film also tells the other side of royal life like how the members of the royal attitude and everything must be done perfectly. From this film, we can also learn a piece of British history and the tension in the British government with the presence of Hitler and the beginning of World War II

Colin Firth’s acting as George VI is extraordinary. He was able to portray people with stuttering well and the character of George VI that seeks to honor from the royal family and other people. Colin Firth is assisted by Helena Bonham Carter who is able to remove Belatrix characters in Harry Potter and the odd characters in her other films. Helena played well as Elizabeth who always supports her husband. Behind every success man, there is an extraordinary woman.

Tom Hooper has brought this film to win an Oscar. This movie completes with a nice cinematography and supported by the perfect music.

[REVIEW] Catch Me if You Can

Leonardo DiCaprio is a guarantee of good quality movie (except J.Edgar of course). Not only Leonardo DiCaprio, but also Tom Hanks, both of them are the guarantees of huge success movie.

Synopsis: based on  true story, Frank Abagnale, Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) worked as a doctor, a lawyer, and as a co-pilot for a major airline -- all before his 18th birthday. A master of deception, he was also a brilliant forger, whose skill gave him his first real claim to fame: At the age of 17, Frank Abagnale, Jr. became the most successful bank robber in the history of the U.S. FBI Agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) makes it his prime mission to capture Frank and bring him to justice, but Frank is always one step ahead of him.

Believe or not, the film is directed by Steven Spielberg, Director who made a fantasy movie like ET and Jurassic Park and touching drama such as Saving Private Ryan and Lincoln. Duration of this movie is 2 hours. You won`t feel bored because of the funny scenes such as when Carl successfully fooled by Frank or while Frank disguised as a doctor and he was sick while saw the disgusting patient.

Frank is a very intelligent character. He amazed us and also made us sympathetic because somehow he was just a teenager who still needs a family (Way to go Leonardo!). Chemistry between DiCaprio and Hanks are very strong as a criminal and the police as well as a friend. The film is also supported by other stars such as Amy Adams and Christopher Walken.

This film discussed a lot about relationships in the family. Frank’s feeling when his parents divorced, and how sad his father and his mother when they knew that he has deceived millions of dollars and when he missed his family while he was in jailed. No doubt that this movie’s rating is 96% on rottentomatoes and got many nominations awards at film festivals such as the Academy Awards, BAFTA, and Golden Globe.

[REVIEW] A Beautiful Mind

Again, I will review the movie biopic. This time is about a man named John Nash, the genius mathematician and has made a scientific work that is still used by us. This movie starrings  Noah and his wife A.K.A Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly

Synopsis: John Nash was a mathematician, but a little arrogant. He is genius and at the peak of his career. He is a professor and highly respected by students and other colleagues. He met with a student named Alicia and became his wife. But unexpectedly turned out he was suffering from mental illness.

The film was one of the great biopic and won 4 awards on Academy Awards. 2 of them are best picture and best supporting actress for Jennifer Connelly. At the beginning of the film we are told the character of John Nash arrogant but very genius and always think before do something. We were also seen the relationship of John and Alicia. The best part is when we know John has a mental illness. Although when compared to the original story there are differences such as John and Alicia have been divorced and remarried, then before John met Alicia turns out that John had a child with his girlfriend who was a nurse, the film is worth to

[REVIEW] The Aviator

Again, I will review Biopic Movie. This time, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio my obssesion (which has never get Oscar). By the way, about the Oscars, the following nominations and awards that achieved by The aviator. Again ... Poor you Leo.

Synopsis: Biopic about the life of an entrepreneur, director, and a pilot named Howard Hughes. About how the love story and struggles with OCD that affect his life and career.

About Leonardo DiCaprio's acting, I must say He is really really greeaattt . He can act like he is the real OCD sufferer. Cate Blanchett Katherine Hepburn successfully act like the real Katherine Hepburn from her attitude and also her manner of speech. From the story, to be honest to the ending a little disappointing. The ending is floating and the climax is too short, tend to rush but the story development is very good. But overall, the film is worth to watch.

[REVIEW] Imitation Game

This Biopic is about Alan Turing, the Enigma code-breaking time from world war II. The film is starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Yep that handsome Sherlock) and Kiera Knightley (That pretty pirates) and both have very good chemistry.

Synopsis: This is a story is about Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch). The story contains about his school life, apply for a job in government as one of the team assigned to solve the enigma code, meeting with Joan Clarke until his post-war life.

Things that make this film unique is how told Alan struggle with the fact that he is gay and in earlier times, gay regarded as a disease or criminal act. With groove back and forth won’t  make the audience confused. However, it is unfortunate, less detail how Alan Turing's life after the war but if dug deeper, the film will be much better. Overall, this movie is great and deserves a wide range of Oscar nominations.
