David Fincher is an expert in the thriller. He can built tense atmosphere perfectly. Typical David Fincher, the film has a dark lighting to add to the atmosphere gloomy. The victims described so terrible. When watching this film we are also invited to participate in solving the case.

David Fincher is also an expert for the twist ending and make the audience by surprise. It seems like almost every movie he always brings a surprising ending.

Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman’s acting is excellent as a pair of detectives. Brad Pitt's expression when the ending is remembered until now especially his quotes "WHAT'S IN THE BOX". Even the quotes that has become famous meme

Se7en is one of the best David Fincher’s movie. The storyline is fast, not too complicated and closed with a good ending.

Synopsis:

Airplane engineer, Kyle Pratt flied to Germany using a plane after her husband's death that fell from the roof of his house. Kyle awoke from her sleep when she realized that her daughter was not there beside her. Kyle looking into all parts of the aircraft as well as asking for help from pilots and other flight staff to found her daughter. However, the staff as reluctant to help Kyle and they say that the child actually never boarded with Kyle aka she's not on the plane.

Jodie Foster in almost every role into `a woman that you never want to trouble with '. Her trademark is to be tough and strong woman like Clarice Sterling in the movie Silence of the Lambs (which is the Gave her an Oscar). Jodie Foster’s acting as a mother is very good in this movie.

From the story, the tension built well. The film was setting only on the plane filled many people with narrow area. This film runs very well even though the setting is only in one place. Conflict is not just about the character of Kyle, but also involves other passengers.

Thriller atmosphere starts from child's disappearance until ending. At the beginning of the story Kyle still calm, then involve the whole crew to passenger aircraft until it was revealed the reasons behind the loss of her daughter. In my opininon, the ending of the film is quite forced to be a twist ending. Perhaps the ending twist ending is as bad as Now You See Me

[REVIEW] Jurassic World (2015)

Our childhood memories are back! I don’t know what year is this. The upcoming movies are Jurassic World, Terminator, Star Wars, etc. What an amazing year!

Synopsis:

Jurassic Park re-opened to the public but with different names, Jurassic World. The park was very luxurious and got a lot of visitors. Scientists began to develop Indominus Rex, a great hybrid dinosaurs, dangerous and very smart. Conflict occurred when Indominus Rex escaped and began searching for prey.

The point of this film is ... dangerous dinosaurs are made – they got angry - escaped --- started to eat humans --- people running --- hero appeared --- all resolved with a happy ending. Standard dinosaur story and I think the story could not be developed anymore because first, this movie for all ages. Second, what do you want the Dino to do? Have inner conflicts in the human world? Or Dino version of Nolan?

For its CGI, I think it’s so ordinary. Nothing special. Maybe because we've seen the effect in other films such as Avenger, Godzilla, etc. Sometimes there are a few scenes with CGI that looks unreal. A bit disappointing for the long-awaited movie. This is the first Jurassic Park movie that does not use the robot. Steven Spielberg in 1993 even can do better. Until now, if we watch Jurassic Park, we will still amazed with Spielberg’s dinosaurs.

The performance of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are very good in this movie. For `human’s acting, I cannot say much because the main element of this film is a dinosaur. Bit unfortunate not entire arena Jurassic World is shown. Tips from me for watching this film and all the other summer movies, do not expect too high. Just watch and enjoy. Typical summer movies are popcorn movies.

In conclusion, this movie is not so disappointing for fans of the Jurassic Park franchise. The manuscript that has been built from 2005 already provides satisfaction for the fans. The film is also the nostalgic for childhood

[REVIEW] Insidious : Chapter 3 (2015)

Starting from a successful horror movie in 2010, formed a successful franchise that is making a lot of money

Synopsis:

Takes place before Insidious 1 and 2, the film tells the story of Quinn (Stefanie Scott), a teenager who had tried to communicate with her mother who had died. One day, Quinn had an accident and he began to be disturbed by a demon who wanted something from her.

Insidious is not the only one successful horror franchise. There is still Texas chainsaw, Friday the 13th, saw, etc. For this third chapter, the director is no longer James Wan, Leigh Whannell instead. This year James Wan focus on fast and furious 7 which is successful at the box office. For this new director, he does not seem much to change the formula of James Wan. Cinematography is still the same as well as the surprising scene. Does not differ much from James Wan characteristic which prioritizes creepy music and shocking scene in any horror movie.

The storyline of chapter 3 is not much different from Insidious 1 and 2. Still told about the further world and Astral Projection. The audience was entertained by the duo `ghostbuster` and the appearance of Elise who died in Insidious 2. Demon who became the main villain is still shown in this film although not become the main villain.

As already discussed, Insidious still prioritizing shocking scenes and music that is creepy. This third chapter is actually quite disappointing when compared to chapter 1 and 2. I'm not going to discuss conjuring because it is one of the James Wan’s masterpiece. However, at least 3 Insidious is not horrible like Anna Belle which is very poor in terms of anything.

Maybe this movie is the best and successful Hollywood movie adaptation. This movie won an Oscar as Best Picture and also got so many nominations in the many movie awards. The Departed is an adaptation from Hong Kong movie, Internal Affair, starring Andy Lau

Synopsis: South Boston cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) goes undercover to infiltrate the organization of gangland chief Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson). As Billy gains the mobster's trust, a career criminal named Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) infiltrates the police department and reports on its activities to his syndicate bosses. When both organizations learn they have a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin must figure out each other's identities to save their own lives.

From the premise, the story of this film tends to be slightly difficult. However, for its implementation, this film doesn’t give audience a headache. At the beginning of the film, we are presented with two people who practice in the police, but with a different fate. When the film reaches the conflict, we will feel the intense situation by `chase scene 'between police and mafia. Many scenes are very capable of bringing the audience follow tense. Especially when the transaction scenes that organized by mafias. At the end of the story, there will be a surprising twist.

This movie had a lot of actors who have very skillful acting. Matt Damon succeeds to portray criminals who act innocent and role in police department. Leonardo DiCaprio gave an excellence performance. He can portray the police with poor anger management at the same time very fragile. Jack Nicholson is able to portray the head of the mafia who intimidate.

In my opinion, a very high rating, nominations and awards are well deserved for this movie

[REVIEW] Home Sweet Hell

Katherine Heigl ex cast as Dr. Lizzy in Grey's anatomy is quite famous for her movie with theme comedy-romance like 27 dresses, Life as We Know It, etc. This time she came back with a comedy-romance which is 'different'

Synopsis : Don (Patrick Wilson) a successful furniture dealer, complete with a perfectly-paced life. He was involved in affair with his employee until she was pregnant. Don's wife, Mona (Katherine Heigl) is a person who is a perfectionist. Knowing her husband's affair, she decided to kill her husband's pregnant girlfriend.

That’s the movie is all about. I must say the plot holes everywhere. When the movie is going on, we will be confused and wondering "What’s that?" "For what?" "What the hell is happening?”. The premise of the film is frankly quite promising. However, implementation is very very bad. Many scenes that make us wonder, the story is not complete and certainly strange and forced ending There are so many scenes that I do not think it necessary and worsen this movie.

I am a fan of Katherine Heigl since she played Katherine Heigl in Grey's Anatomy. Likewise with Patrick Wilson whom I have known through Insidious. Chemistry between them as a married couple is strong enough. Patrick Wilson is able to portray Don, stupid and cowardly husband complete with silly and annoying expression.

[REVIEW] Before I Go to Sleep

The film about the people that suffered short-term memory loss is always exciting. Starting from the thriller genre like memento or even a romantic comedy like 50 first dates.

Synopsis: Christine (Nicole Kidman) woke up and did not know anything around her. Including the man in the bed next to her and it turns out that is her husband, Ben (Colin Firth). Ben explained that the Christine has severe injuries on her head as a result of the accident. After Ben left, Christine got a call from dr. Nash (Mark Strong) who help Christine to find clues about what had happened. What Christine found are beyond her expectation.

Before I go to sleep is based on the novel with the same name. In my opinion, this film is very exciting. We are invited to guess what will happen next. Tension built pretty well. The story line is not slow and cannot explain the story with an efficient and uncomplicated. Twist presented at the end of the story about what happened to Christine didn’t well that make the audience surprise. A lot of thriller movies make ending like that.

The acting of 3 famous stars such as Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth and Mark Strong are very great. All three have been highly recognized and received various awards. All three can build chemistry (and the tense atmosphere) very well. Nicole Kidman’s acting is very convincing and make us feel how stress and depressed Christine. Colin Firth as Ben can make us moved and also tense. Ben character in this film is the key to everything. I am the big of this British actor.

[REVIEW] Whiplash

I’m so Speechless about this movie. It Makes us excited and also makes us sad. Rarely do films about music can make me feel this way stress

Synopsis: Andrew Neinman (Miles Teller), first year student in music school and his dream is becoming a famous drummer. One day, Terence Fletcher (JK Simmons) music coach recruited him to become a drummer in his team. Fletcher is very hard on his students and often uses physical violence and harsh words in teaching. Andrew with his dream struggled with Fletcher’s teaching techniques that is 'different'.

The film is mixed of thriller and drama. We can feel scared by Mr. Fletcher. We can feel how Andrew goes crazy every time he plays in front of Mr. Fletcher and especially if he made a mistake in his play. Mr. Fletcher did not hesitate to throw a chair and swore to make Andrew cry.

Throughout the film, we are presented with a powerful jazz music. Perhaps in this film we be confused if we annoyed at Fletcher with any behavior that is harmful or even sympathetic because behind his attitude while teaching, he is a figure that loves his student. It can be seen that on several occasions he actually encouraged Andrew and behind the cruel manner, he really wants his students to grow and become better.

JK Simmons took home an Oscar as best supporting actor for his role very great as Fletcher. Of course this is no doubt. Whiplash itself won many awards and nominations in many awards for the film.

[REVIEW] 50 Shades of Grey

From the best-selling erotic novel in England that beat Harry Potter, comes a franchise which is for .. mommy? 50 Shades of Grey.

Well, this may be the first time people are not ashamed to read porn stories in a public place.. I mean erotic novel

Synopsis: Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), a student of English literature interviewed young billionaire named Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). After the interviewed, there was a special relationship between them. Christian often buys gifts and treats Anna well. Behind all this, Christian likes sex with violence where he becomes the dominant. Christian who likes to hit. Inner conflict faced by Anna if she would leave the Christian or not.

The point is this is a romantic story plus sex violence. Actually the story of the novel itself is none-sense.. Why it was best-selling? Well, this proves that sex is still dominant in market. Perhaps this is an extraordinary phenomenon that the women who think porn is taboo even to read this book and discussing with his friends freely.

For the movie, frankly I'm a fan of Sam Taylor-Wood since she directed Nowhere Boy. Very grateful that the Taylor-Johnson does not include all the elements in the novel to film because there is a scene in the novel itself plus 'silly' dialogue and also disturbing scene that if it is in the big screen would be very awkward and possibly trauma.

Maybe this is the first time I assume that the film is better than the novel. Dialogue in the film far more weight than the novel but certainly some scenes still feel 'cheesy'. In addition, a good thing about this movie is Anna and Christian is hot and meets the expectations of the readers of the novel. Anna is not as dumb character in the novel (thankfully) and Christian still sucks and coercive. Dakota Johnson’s and Jamie Dornan’s acting can bring Anna and Christian character to the movie well.  After actor who will star as Christian became the talk in the media before the film was made, I was more interested in the Dakota Johnson. In the early scenes Johnson acting more like a porn actress, but she can portray a 'different' Anna from his novel. Dakota was able to bring Anna is so 'desperate' to be with Christian.

Perhaps the thing that could make this movie ‘forgiven’ is its OST. Start with Crazy In Love by Beyonce which is remixed and become sexy, Ellie Goulding with hits love me like you do, and a lot of good songs from this movie.

Yeah I know this film is from 2013, but the film is able to make me a fan of this movie (besides Kingsman of course). The film is used to be my ‘must-watch-list’ from just looked at the trailer.

Synopsis: A group of magicians named four horsemen, who robbed the banks in France with their magic technique. Police named Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) are assigned to catch them and prove that they are guilty.

That’s the short synopsis. Anyway, why the hell we must watch this movie? First, there are so many stars like Mark Ruffalo, Sir Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Jesse Einseberg, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson, and Isla Fisher. Their roles are complementary to each other. In addition, we will be amazed by the magic techniques that existed throughout the film. Magic technique that is existed also supported with a fantastic effect. For examples like when the four horsemen performed in Las Vegas. We will laugh to police who were fooled by the Horsemen.

Regarding the ending that still discussed, I know, seem too far-fetched. FYI, the ending of this movie will be twisted and make us"SERIOUSLY?”  In to my opinion, the ending is a bit forced anyway and needed a sequel that feels more 'finished'. Fortunately in 2016, the film made its sequel but not with Isla Fisher. She was pregnant.

This film are cult, black comedy and very SICK. Christian Bale was really sick here. This film is one of the best films of Christian Bale or .. I must say this is the best.

Synopsis: Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale), a young executive who works in the acquisition company, Pierce & Pierce. He has a luxury lifestyle from luxury food, body care, suits and live in luxury apartments in New York. Behind all its perfection, he is a psychopath who kills prostitutes and beggars. In addition, she likes rough sex.

From synopsis, it’s pretty obvious right. In this film, graphically how the greedy and young executives only care with their money. They are so arrogant and often assume others low. The film is at once a real portrait of urban residents. Frankly I really like the character of Patrick Bateman premises. He has good taste, very neat and orderly. It is unique from it other than the nature of the psychopath, before killing people he likes talking about music and his favorite song. The most frequently parodied was when he killed Paul Allen (Jared Letto).

The most famous from American Psycho are the speech from  Patrick Bateman about everything around him and a certain scene like scene cards, early scene when he was preparing to work, and of course the ambigous ending and is still being debated.

The film is almost perfect from every aspect such as dialogue, acting, and music! Especially music! I Guaranteed if you hear a song Huey Lewis and the News, Hip to be Square, you want craze. It is Likewise with Phill Collins’ song, Sussuido.

[REVIEW] Gone Girl

Synopsis:  on the fifth anniversary of his wedding, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) went home and found that his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike) disappears. However, his attitude did not show anxiety and tend to be relaxed. Not only had that, coupled with the evidence that leads him, Nick increasingly suspected of being behind the disappearance of Amy suspects.

The film is based on the novel of the same title and in my opinion; this movie is as good as the novel. Although the film does not exactly match the story in the novel, the film is quite representative coupled with the atmosphere and the music that makes us as the audience joined excited (typical David Fincher). Oh yes, do not forget some pretty disturbing scenes.. Duration 150 minutes will not be felt as very intense.

About acting, Ben Affleck may no doubt and Rosamund Pike as co-star is able to bring us 'willing' follows the story of Nick and Amy. No wonder Rosamund Pike get an Oscar nomination as Best Actress and get other film awards.
