Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

Maze-Runner-The-Scorch-Trials-Poster.jpg
via : wikipedia

Maze Runner The second installment is quite different from its predecessor

Synopsis:
After Thomas and his friends survived the maze, they were evacuated to safety place. But apparently they are still chased by organization WCKD. They must escape from WCKD that threaten their lives.
If in the previous Maze Runner, it’s quite boring with a slow pace, Scorch Trials will be a little different. At the beginning of the film, Scorch Trials’ paces are very quickly without pause, but when the film went into the middle, the flow was very slow and boring, and as it continues until the end of the movie. Perceived conflicts seem repetitive and less intense. A story of friendship between Thomas and his friends do not help this movie. Fortunately WCKD organizations discussed in detail in this film. Actually, the conflict in the new franchise Maze Runner was emphasized in this second film.

Oh yes, about Thomas, I might sound a bit biased but seriously, Thomas is the hero that most makes me upset. I don’t know why he was appointed as leader when he did not have planning, too emotional, and constantly questioning and that makes me upset. Yep, that's my opinion about Thomas
In this film, minor character such as Newt and Minho succeed steal scene. I even admit they are much cooler than Thomas as the main character

[REVIEW] Pretty Woman (1990)

A man in a suit stands back to back with a woman wearing a short skirt and thigh high boots.
via: wikipedia
Yes, I am going to discuss romance comedy movie which became the inspiration for RomCom movie in this era. Starring actress who has a beautiful smile, Julia Roberts and handsome actor Richard Gere.

Synopsis:
A businessman named Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) hire a hooker named Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts) during the week to accompany him. Their relationship which was originally just a business relationship began to turn into love.

Pretty woman may be regarded as the Cinderella of modern era plus sex. In this film, they are both still very young, and Richard Gere became the idol. This movie is one of the rom-com classic movies and almost all people on this earth ever watched Pretty Woman. Maybe this film is one of the best Rom-Com. Clichés like the main character is a handsome man, a funny incident, a conflict until they get back together imitated by many Rom-Com movies today. The film also make Julia Roberts and Richard Gere become popular. Chemistry between Julia Roberts and Richard Gere are very nice and they get back together in other films named Runaway Bride.

I really enjoyed this movie and actually I've been watching movies since childhood and constantly repeated. Similarly, titanic movie, I never get tired of watching this movie. My favorite scene in the film and perhaps the most memorable is the scene Julia Roberts shopping in Los Angeles while accompanied by the song Oh, Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison. The number 1 movie at the box office when released and reached a total worldwide gross of $ 463,407,268.

This film is one of the must-watch list for women.

[REVIEW] Edward Scissorhands

An image of Edward (the main protagonist) and his love interest
via : wikipedia

Once upon a time, before starring in the failed movie like lone ranger, dark shadows, mortdecai, etc., Johnny Depp played a character who until now become the icon for the Tim Burton’s movie, Edward Scissorshands.

Synopsis:
A scientist (Vincent Price) made a robot with the human form named Edward (Johnny Depp). But the scientist died before Edward completed, so Edward has a hand like a pair of scissors. One day, Peg (Dianne West) found Edward and took it home. Edward falls in love with Kim (Winona Ryder). However, the physical condition of Edward became an obstacle for them

Instead of romance, I would prefer to call this movie as a family drama. For the story, the movie is very nice. Edward is described very fragile and has a good heart but is often misused by people around him such as neighbors and Kim’s friends. Many morals can be drawn from this film. Even the story in this film could be very relevant to daily life.

Johnny Depp always makes an outstanding performance. He is known for become odd characters such as Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, and Edward is the best character. Edward even with the creepy appearance, he was adorable.

Cinematography in this film is very beautiful. Especially the most memorable scene, Edward who was cutting the ice and Kim was dancing underneath while enjoying the beauty of the pieces of ice those are falling. This film is must watch for fans of Johnny Depp.

[REVIEW] Focus

2015 Focus film poster.png

Finally Will Smith played in cool movie. Let's forget about his movie with his son, Jaden Smith (who is famous for his tweet that is very `deep ')

Synopsis
Nick (Will Smith), a con-artist who met Jess (Margot Robbie) a woman who wants to be a con-artist. She joined Nick’s team and did a lot of theft. One day, Nick left Jess suddenly. 3 years later they met again when Nick wants to deceive a club owner named Garriga F1.

Like other movies about con-artist, there will be twist everywhere. We see trick by the con-artist which is very entertaining. We are amazed how they trick the target by directing their thoughts and pickpocketing. This movie is like Now You See Me with more romance.

Because this movie’s genre is romance, certainly many romantic scenes between Will Smith with Margot Robbie. Their scenes are little bit awkward. The dialogues are same like typical cheesy romantic movie. There are intense storyline and from early to mid-movie, the storyline is very good. Ending the film is likely to be forced and rushed. Twist extremely forced. That is the negative side of this film.

Margot Robbie is really adorable. In contrast to her sexy image in wolf of Wall Street, in the film she appeared with cute and cheerful image. Image that is more suitable for her. Will Smith acting as usual, very good

[REVIEW] Pitch Perfect 2

Pitch Perfect 2 poster.jpg

The pitches are back! After the success of the first film, as usual, sequel comes out. Here we go pitches!

Synopsis:
After the embarrassing incident in President Obama's birthday, Barden Bellas suspended and their title as three times national champions removed. If they want to free from suspension, they must win the world champion which is never won by a team from the American. In their struggle, they have rival teams from Germany, Das Sound Machine.

Actually there is nothing new from PP2’s story, the same story line such as a new kid named Emily (Hailee Steinfeld), Bellas’ struggle in singing, as well as conflicts between members. The Musical scenes are shown better in this sequel than the first movie. In performance, Bellas look different and sang the OST of this film, flashlight. Last musical scene is very nice.

The main element of this film is jokes. Jokes in the second film are not as good as in the first movie. Overall the first film is funnier. But, of course Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) still performs optimally with a love story with Bumper (Adam Devine).

Chemistry between the cast is very good, especially the chemistry between Anna Kendrick as Becca and Brittany Snow as Chloe. Even many fans of Pitch perfect are supporting them as pairing Bechloe. They complete each other in this film.

Emily as the new kid actually does not have a significant influence in this film. Unless there is told that she made the original song that is sung by Bellas.

I relieved that Pitch Perfect 2 is not horrible considering many comedy movies sequel are horrible. Although not as good as the first one, of course, the film is must be watched for fans

[REVIEW] Laggies

My lovely Kiera Knightley and Chloe Grace Moretz was in one movie! wow! This time Kiera will play in a romantic comedy.

Synopsis:
Megan (Kiera Knightley), an adult woman who have not been prepared to deal with change in her life. One day, at her friend’s wedding, her boyfriend proposed her. Megan ran with panic. In the midst of panic, she met Anika (Chloe Grace Moretz) who ask for help to buy alcohol with Megan’s ID card. Finally arising become friends. Megan is involved in Anika’s teenage life.

To be honest, it’s quite strange hearing Kiera Kinghtley without her British accent. This film is quite fun. We can see the life of the two viewpoints. Adult point of view is represented by the character of Megan and adolescents represented by Anika. Megan experienced her teenage life again with Anika like party, sleep-over, prom night and fall in love. This is one of the good film about growing up. The film also highlights the problems usually faced by teenagers.

For the love story itself, quite classic. Nothing special. Suddenly love comes, they in love and conflict, they separated and be together again.
From this film we learn how to deal with problems like an adult and leaving our teenage life

[REVIEW] The Theory of Ever

Theory of Everything.jpg

Winner of best actress and best actor for an Oscar this year was Julianne Moore and Eddie Redmayne. They both play a character that is smart and successful, but because of their illness becomes a pathetic figure. The film is based on the life story of scientist, Stephen Hawking

Synopsis:
Based on the life story of Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) how he faced a motor neuron disease that makes his body slowly paralyzed. He was assisted by his wife Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones) who is faithful and care. The story told about them during their married conflicts are mostly due to Hawking illness.

This film can be compared with Beautiful Mind. Both were based on real character, a genius, a disease that prevents them from working, supportive wife and success achieved. Not to mention the shooting technique in this film. Actually I prefer Beautiful Mind.

Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne were amazing. Both had a very strong chemistry as a couple. Eddie Redmayne was bringing home the Oscar because of this movie. In addition, he had a significant physical changes, he also looks very convincing as people with Motor Neuron. He was able to bring Stephen Hawking figure well into the movie. If an actor cannot play well as a patients with a disease, it can occurs awkwardly moment.

The good side of this movie is, is told in detail struggle despite ending their marriage divorce. It is not owned by Beautiful Mind.

[REVIEW] 50 Shades of Grey

Fifty-Gray-poster.jpg
via:wikipedia
From the best-selling erotic novel in England that beat Harry Potter, comes a franchise which is for .. mommy? 50 Shades of Grey.

Well, this may be the first time people are not ashamed to read porn stories in a public place.. I mean erotic novel

Synopsis: Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), a student of English literature interviewed young billionaire named Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). After the interviewed, there was a special relationship between them. Christian often buys gifts and treats Anna well. Behind all this, Christian likes sex with violence where he becomes the dominant. Christian who likes to hit. Inner conflict faced by Anna if she would leave the Christian or not.

The point is this is a romantic story plus sex violence. Actually the story of the novel itself is none-sense.. Why it was best-selling? Well, this proves that sex is still dominant in market. Perhaps this is an extraordinary phenomenon that the women who think porn is taboo even to read this book and discussing with his friends freely.

For the movie, frankly I'm a fan of Sam Taylor-Wood since she directed Nowhere Boy. Very grateful that the Taylor-Johnson does not include all the elements in the novel to film because there is a scene in the novel itself plus 'silly' dialogue and also disturbing scene that if it is in the big screen would be very awkward and possibly trauma.

Maybe this is the first time I assume that the film is better than the novel. Dialogue in the film far more weight than the novel but certainly some scenes still feel 'cheesy'. In addition, a good thing about this movie is Anna and Christian is hot and meets the expectations of the readers of the novel. Anna is not as dumb character in the novel (thankfully) and Christian still sucks and coercive. Dakota Johnson’s and Jamie Dornan’s acting can bring Anna and Christian character to the movie well.  After actor who will star as Christian became the talk in the media before the film was made, I was more interested in the Dakota Johnson. In the early scenes Johnson acting more like a porn actress, but she can portray a 'different' Anna from his novel. Dakota was able to bring Anna is so 'desperate' to be with Christian.

Perhaps the thing that could make this movie ‘forgiven’ is its OST. Start with Crazy In Love by Beyonce which is remixed and become sexy, Ellie Goulding with hits love me like you do, and a lot of good songs from this movie.

[REVIEW] Magic in The Moonlight

via: wikipedia

To be honest I am interested in watching movies because there is Emma Stone (acknowledgment from the heart). I am a big fan of Emma Stone.

Synopsis
: Around 1920, a magician named Stanley (Colin Firth) invited her to visit a psychic named Sophie (Emma Stone). Stanley was very logical and even doesn’t believe in God. He is trying to prove that Sophie is just fake paranormal.

Such typical Woody Allen’s movie, the movie is almost full of dialogue and a little bit action.  Don’t expect a lot of action like magician movie Now You See Me. The film is filled with a lot of dialogue and should be listened to as well as possible because it affects the way the story. In addition, we are presented with a view of France and once again, a typical Woody Allen, full of pastel colors. The love story of Sophie and Stanley was also very nice but for the climax is very less and almost imperceptibly. Completion at the end of the story seem to rush and too 'simple'. Overall, this movie really quite fun
